This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
