League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' by Arrests

Speaking about the detentions for the first time, NBA commissioner Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and supporters than the integrity of the competition," he told a broadcaster. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner further mentioned an league probe into Rozier's actions in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he participated for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the gambling firms," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were very transparent regarding it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, couldn't find anything.

"The federal government has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can do all kinds of things that the league office can't do.

"So, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they announced recently was an charge.

"And 30 months after, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Terry.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a compromise here between upholding rights and investigating."
